One of my very first posts on this blog was a picture of the birthday cake I made for my boyfriend. It was the classic Mass Effect N7 cake that’s since been posted all over the internet. Well, it’s been roughly a year again, so here’s the birthday cake I made for my boyfriend this year:
If you don’t know who this is, it’s Animal from the Muppets. My boyfriend is a big fan of the Muppets and Animal is his favourite character. He was expecting another video game cake, so it was nice to surprise him with this. It’s not the best Animal replica in the world, but I thought it was recognizable enough.
The cake was my favourite Red Velvet Cake recipe, and I used a basic buttercream icing recipe + Satin Ice fondant for the decorations. Yes I know red velvet cake should use cream cheese frosting…I didn’t want to buy cream cheese. Besides it still tasted delicious. It’s also the first not-fully fondant cake I’ve decorated since high school. It reminded me how painful covering an entire cake with a piping bag is >.< Maybe I should learn how to hold one properly.
